Helping tourism businesses and destinations become visible, bookable and AI-ready.

Tourism is changing.

For many years, travellers discovered destinations through travel agents, brochures, exhibitions, guidebooks and Google searches.

Today, the journey is becoming very different.

Travellers can ask ChatGPT:

“What are the best authentic experiences in Malaysia?”

They can ask Google AI:

“What should I do in Kuala Lumpur besides the usual tourist attractions?”

They can ask:

“Where can I experience a Malaysian village lifestyle?”

And increasingly, AI will recommend the destinations, businesses, attractions and experiences that it can understand, trust and find online.

This change is creating a new challenge for the tourism industry.

It is no longer enough for a tourism business to simply exist.

It needs to become:

Visible.
Bookable.
Understandable by AI.
Connected to the global market.

This is the area I have chosen to focus on as an AI Inbound Tourism Strategist.

Who Is Uzaidi Udanis?

I am Uzaidi Udanis, a Malaysian inbound tourism industry practitioner and the founder of Your Inbound Matters.

My journey in tourism started long before artificial intelligence became part of our everyday conversation.

Over the years, I have worked closely with travel agents, tour operators, tourism associations, destinations, hotels, local communities, entrepreneurs and tourism stakeholders.

That experience has taught me one important lesson:

Malaysia does not have a shortage of tourism assets.

We have villages.

We have food.

We have heritage.

We have nature.

We have crafts.

We have communities.

We have stories.

We have passionate local people.

The challenge is that many of these assets have not yet been converted into tourism experiences that international travellers can easily discover, understand and book.

Technology and AI now give us an opportunity to change that.

What Is an AI Inbound Tourism Strategist?

An AI Inbound Tourism Strategist looks at how artificial intelligence, digital distribution, booking technology, content and market intelligence can help tourism businesses and destinations attract international visitors.

But for me, AI tourism strategy is not simply about using ChatGPT to write social media posts.

That is only a small part of the opportunity.

The bigger question is:

How can AI help a tourism business participate more effectively in the global visitor economy?

That includes helping tourism businesses become easier to discover online, developing better tourism experiences, creating bookable products, improving international distribution, building direct-to-consumer channels and making tourism information easier for AI platforms to understand.

My focus is therefore not AI for the sake of AI.

My focus is using AI and digital technology to create real tourism business opportunities.

My Philosophy: Experience Creates Economy

One of the ideas behind my work is simple:

Experience Creates Economy.

A tourism experience can create economic opportunities far beyond the original tourism business.

Consider a visitor joining a village experience.

The visitor may pay a local guide.

They may eat at a local restaurant.

They may buy handicrafts.

They may use local transport.

They may stay at a nearby homestay.

They may purchase agricultural products.

They may share the experience online and encourage other travellers to visit.

One well-designed experience can create economic activity across an entire community.

This is why I believe Malaysia's next major tourism opportunity is not simply building more attractions.

It is identifying existing local assets and turning them into market-ready experiences.

From Local Assets to Global Experiences

Across Malaysia, thousands of potentially valuable tourism experiences already exist.

A traditional cooking activity.

A local fishing experience.

A village cycling route.

A craft workshop.

A farm visit.

A heritage walk.

A wellness ritual.

A local food trail.

A nature experience.

A traditional skill passed from one generation to another.

Many of these activities were never originally created for tourists.

That can actually be their biggest strength.

Travellers increasingly want to understand the people, culture and stories behind a destination.

The opportunity is to transform these local assets into experiences without destroying their authenticity.

My role is to help tourism players think through the journey:

Local Asset → Experience → Product → Booking → Distribution → Global Customer

Helping Tourism Businesses Become Visible, Bookable and AI-Ready

I use three simple words frequently:

Visible

Can potential customers find your business?

Does your business appear when travellers search online?

Can search engines understand what you offer?

Can AI platforms identify your business and explain why someone should choose you?

Bookable

Once someone discovers you, can they immediately take action?

Can they see your product?

Can they understand the price?

Can they check availability?

Can they make a booking?

Can they pay digitally?

Discovery without the ability to transact is a missed opportunity.

AI-Ready

AI systems depend on information.

If your business has weak descriptions, inconsistent information, no structured products, limited online presence and very few trustworthy references, AI systems may struggle to understand your business.

Being AI-ready means creating a strong and consistent digital footprint that clearly explains:

Who you are.

Where you are.

What you offer.

Who the experience is suitable for.

What makes the experience different.

How customers can book it.

AI Is Changing Tourism Discovery

For many years, tourism businesses concentrated heavily on Google rankings and social media.

Both remain important.

But another layer of tourism discovery is growing rapidly:

AI-powered recommendations.

Travellers increasingly want answers rather than thousands of links.

Instead of searching:

“Malaysia village experience”

a traveller may ask:

“I have three days in Malaysia. Recommend an authentic village experience near Kuala Lumpur suitable for my family.”

This changes the tourism marketing challenge.

Businesses will increasingly need to ensure that their destination, experience and brand can be clearly understood by search engines and AI systems.

I believe this will become one of the most important areas of tourism marketing over the coming years.

Direct-to-Consumer Is Becoming More Important

Another area I strongly believe tourism businesses should develop is Direct-to-Consumer, or DTC.

Marketplaces, wholesalers, travel agents and distribution partners remain important.

But tourism businesses should also develop their own brand and direct customer channels.

A small tourism operator today can have its own website, booking engine, digital content, customer database, AI tools, payment system and international distribution.

Technology is reducing the traditional advantages enjoyed only by larger companies.

That is why one idea I frequently share with tourism entrepreneurs is:

Size Does Not Matter.

A small company with a unique experience, strong digital presence and good distribution can compete for customers internationally.

My Areas of Focus

Through Your Inbound Matters, my work focuses on several connected areas of the visitor economy.

These include:

Tourism Business Transformation
Helping tourism businesses become visible, bookable and AI-ready.

Destination Experience Development
Turning local assets, stories and communities into marketable tourism experiences.

International Market Access
Connecting Malaysian tourism products with global consumers, agents, marketplaces and distribution channels.

Direct-to-Consumer Tourism Strategy
Helping operators develop their own brands, digital channels and customer relationships.

Unsold Capacity Activation
Finding ways to convert empty rooms, unused seats, quiet periods and under-utilised tourism assets into revenue opportunities.

Inbound Venture Building
Developing new tourism platforms, marketplaces, products and business models.

Why I Created Your Inbound Matters

Your Inbound Matters was created around a simple belief:

We Rise By Lifting Others .. We must support each other to be visible.

The inbound tourism ecosystem becomes stronger when more local tourism businesses are able to participate in the international visitor economy.

We want to create a platform where tourism knowledge, technology, industry connections and market opportunities can come together.

The objective is not simply to discuss tourism.

The objective is to help businesses move from ideas to actual products.

From products to bookings.

From bookings to markets.

And ultimately from tourism activity to local economic impact.

AI Will Not Replace Tourism's Human Element

Despite my focus on AI, I do not believe technology is the most important part of tourism.

People are.

Hospitality is human.

Culture is human.

Stories are human.

Experiences are human.

AI can help travellers discover an experience.

Technology can help them book it.

But the memory they bring home is normally created by another human being.

The opportunity therefore is not to replace people with AI.

It is to use AI to help more people, communities and tourism entrepreneurs participate in the tourism economy.

The Future of Inbound Tourism

I believe the tourism businesses that succeed in the coming years will increasingly combine five capabilities:

Unique local experiences.
Strong digital visibility.
Instant bookability.
International market connectivity.
AI readiness.

Malaysia already has extraordinary tourism assets.

Our next challenge is to make more of them discoverable and commercially accessible to the world.

That is the journey I am working on through Your Inbound Matters.

Because ultimately, my belief remains very simple:

Experience Creates Economy.
